I will sorely miss this site! I have been addicted to the crime blotter to make sure all my residents have been behaving. This was an excellent tool for me to eliminate any problem residents as the police dept. never notifies owners of any complaints.

it has been proven that recycling causes more pollution and is more expensive than normal garbage collecting. it is also suggested that only politicians and a select few group of other benefit from recycling, not the environment. with scrap metal and plastics being at an all time high, why wouldn't lakewood want to recycle. i wonder what the city will do with this increase in fiscal revenue. i wonder if this program will even run at a solvent capacity. regardless, i will not pay any landfill tax and i will not recycle. you are naive if you think this is a good idea.

“Mandatory recycling programs offer mainly short-term benefits to a few groups -- politicians, public relations consultants, environmental organizations and waste handling corporations -- while diverting money from genuine social and environmental problems. Recycling may be the most wasteful activity in modern America…”

My only hope is the mayor realizes how bad the mechanical arm idea is going to fail... and the failure will give him the fuel he needs to privatize the entire garbage department.

"Councilperson Madigan, in a rare moment of sharp clarity"

I'd like to vote for the above line as 'Crimewood 2008 Quote of the Year'.

Madigan is blind to the fact that her ward is has been overtaken by undesirables. Walking down some of the east end streets, it's hard to tell if you are in Lakewood or East Cleveland.

Lakewood cannot get rid of Section 8. The best course of action is to partner with CMHA to vigorously enforce the rules of the program.

How can Lakewood get rid of Section 8? It seems as if there are so many awesome people in this town and a only handful of RiffRaff.

The decline of the East End has been an on going process, historic "Bird Town" was built by Union Carbide & Lake Erie Screw employees, there are still reminents of the history dotted though-out the neighbor hood, for there is still hope. I applaude your diligence and devotion to the neighborhood. It will once-again find it's niche.

"I’ve noticed a slow and steady decline in people’s respect of one another in my neighborhood. There has been a rise in instances of groups of kids walking in the streets, cussing at cars, littering and basically needing an ass-beating from their parents."

Parent(s)? Where? I see these groups of kids walking thru other people's yards, and sometimes sitting on people's porches that they don't even know. Littering, cussing, etc. Not looking forward to another Lakewood summer in the Madison Park area...

Good insight. I wrote a letter to the city a couple years ago about adding trash cans along Franklin, but nothing ever came of it. I think I need to go to the city council in person.
